Frequently Asked Questions

What is Mind Body Therapy?

In short, Mind Body Therapy is a therapeutic modality that recognizes that your mind and body are not two separate entities, so we address the body as part of the psychological healing and/or growth process. Anything your mind has experienced, your body has experienced also. As such, Mind Body Therapists seek to help guide you as you process the emotions living (and possibly stuck) inside your body.

Mind Body Therapies come in many forms, and can include movement, dance, drawing, yoga, martial arts, or other physical exercise, meditation, breath work, massage, touch, talk, singing and music, etc. In my practice, the focus is talk and experiencing physical sensation in stillness or little movement.

What will a session with you be like?

At first glance, mind body therapy looks very similar to a conventional psychotherapy session.
I like to begin each session leading a short mindfulness-based grounding technique. We then discuss whatever you’d like to, and spend time discovering how that subject is being processed in your body. This is a talk therapy, that may sometimes include very light movement. However, this is not a movement modality, as some Mind Body Therapies are. We always include mindfulness, awareness, and inquiry into yourself. You are the expert in your healing and growth, I just help guide you in the process of realization. While sometimes, we may look deeply at past experiences or future concerns, we always incorporate tools to remain present in the moment. This allows us to explore experiences, while being firmly grounded in the safety of the here and now. While this type of work can get emotionally heavy sometimes, you can expect to end each session feeling peaceful and secure.
If you are a Christian woman, I am happy to bring prayer and Biblical guidance into session upon your request.
All faiths, religions, philosophies, traditions, or non-beliefs, whatever they may be, are safe and respected here.

I have a regular therapist, why would I want Mind Body Therapy?

Conventional psychotherapy and Mind Body Therapy are a wonderful compliment to each other, working in a holistic approach to your healing. While conventional psychotherapists utilize a wide array of methods for psychological wellness, Mind Body Therapy focuses on just one…the body, and how it is holding life experience. Mind Body Therapy is a  different and complimentary approach to healing! We do not replace any of the work you're doing with your psychotherapist or counselor, but, we can add to it or bring new “breakthroughs”. In fact, if you have therapy experience, you’re probably well prepared to move right into maximum benefit of Mind Body Therapy!
I encourage you to speak with your current care provider, to see if they think this service might be beneficial for you.
When you book a consultation we can talk more about integrating Mind Body Therapy into your current care plan.

What are your costs?

My standard rate is $80 per 50 minute session for individuals &  $100 for couples for 80 minutes.

I also offer a reduced rate for those who are uncomfortable with my standard fee. (Subject to availability/waitlist)

*10% discount is offered to those paying my standard rate and prefer to pay for weekly sessions one month in advance.

I also offer “mini sessions” for $30. These are 20 minutes or less and are for experienced clients who would like a “focusing” partner, led meditation or imagery work, or know they just need a quick check in or mediation. They are available online or in person. See my Pricing page for more info.

Do you accept Insurance?

No. In Oregon, Mind Body Therapy and Health Coaching falls under the category of “alternative therapies”. Unfortunately, no insurance company will allow claims under this title. Likewise, I am unable to accept victim/witness claims. If you are a recent victim/witness, please let me know so we can create an affordable option for you.

I am happy to provide you with a superbill for HSA/HFA accounts.
I accept cash, credit/debit cards, checks, and the occasional barter.

How long and often should I see you?

This really is up to you! The most benefit is usually gained by weekly visits. But,  some prefer every other week or once per month, and some like to see me twice a week or more. Likewise, frequency may change over time.

You should have a pretty good idea after just 2 or 3 visits whether or not you’re comfortable with and benefitting from this type of therapy, and we expect to be well into meeting your goals by session 10. That said, some people will continue to enjoy this type of work for a longer period, indefinitely, or coming in for occasional “maintenance”.
Again, it’s entirely up to you!

Do you offer telehealth appointments?

Yes! I am happy to offer telehealth video, telephone, or in-person appointments. Studies have shown that each are almost equally valuable, with just slight benefit leaning toward in-person appointments.

Telehealth is offered at the same cost as in-person appointments.

What is your cancellation policy?

My schedule is filling up fast, so I ask for as much advance notice as you can. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice will be charged half rate, payable by your next appointment. Two consecutive cancellations may result in forfeiture of your weekly appointment time. Three or more cancellations will include a reassessment of your commitment to this work at our next appointment.

How can I get more info?

I offer a free 20 minute consultation. Consults are usually over the phone or video, but can be in person also. This is a great time to get to know more about the process and answer all your questions.

I also encourage you to search the internet for “mind body therapy” “somatic therapy”, or, “somatic psychotherapy”, to get a broader picture of what this modality looks like.
